1. Native English Teachers (NETs)
Two full-time Native English Teachers (NETs) enrich our English programme. They deliver Read Write Inc. Phonics to Key Stage 1 (Primary 1–3), the Development of Text Sets (DTS) programme to Primary 4 students, and a reader-based curriculum to Primary 5 and 6 students. They also support a wide range of extra-curricular groups and activities, including the Drama Team, Radio Drama Team, Fung Kei TV Team, and interview training.
2. Read Write Inc. Phonics Programme
Our Key Stage 1 students follow the highly regarded Read Write Inc. Phonics programme (Oxford University Press). Through systematic teaching of sounds and blending, students rapidly develop decoding skills and gain confidence in reading and writing. Guided reading sessions allow teachers to address individual needs, while follow-up writing activities help students apply their phonics knowledge, expand vocabulary, and build writing confidence.
3. Home Reading Programme
At the beginning of the year, Primary 1 students are carefully assessed to determine their reading level. Every week, they take home a book matched to their ability, fostering independent reading habits and a genuine love of books from an early age.
4. Ability Grouping
In Primary 5 and 6 English lessons, we use ability grouping to ensure tailored instruction. This approach enables teachers to provide appropriately challenging tasks and targeted support, boosting participation, confidence, and overall progress.
5. Reader-Based Curriculum
Primary 5 and 6 students enjoy a rich reader-based curriculum that combines high-quality literature with engaging activities such as drama, role-play, games, quizzes, and debates. The programme nurtures a lifelong love of reading while developing critical thinking and communication skills.
6. Development of Text Sets (DTS) Programme
Through our specially designed DTS website, Primary 4 students explore the wonders of China using a variety of text types, videos, and information books. The programme encourages research, questioning, collaboration, and process writing, culminating in an individual report on a Chinese city. Students finish the unit with a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture and strengthened inquiry and writing skills.
7. Artificial Intelligence Platform
Students across different year levels use an advanced AI platform to practise speaking, listening, and writing. The system provides instant, personalised feedback, helping students improve accuracy, fluency, and confidence in a fun and supportive way.
8. Fung Kei English Club, English Ambassadors, and English Corridor
The Fung Kei English Club is led by our enthusiastic English Ambassadors. They organise activities such as the “Little Teachers” programme, in which older students read to younger ones, and staff the English Corridor, where junior students can enjoy books and English board games in a relaxed, immersive environment.
